water pump question

Are all Ford small block water pumps the same from 1964-72 ?

Specifically will a 302 and a 260 pump interchange without the 302 pump having any extra holes in the pump body ?

If they are not the same I'll be thumping a parts man tomorrow morning Twisted Evil !!!

not all the same. 64-mid 65 used an aluminum pump with the impeller exposed at the back. There is also differnet castings of the aluminum pumps for 64 & 65 for the use of a generator or alternator (different mounting points for the brackets) Mid 1965 and later uses a cast iron pump with a plate on the back of the pump sealing off the impeller. They do not interchange and both use different timing covers. There are also different styles of cast iron pumps. In 1970? they moved the outlet of the water pump to the LH (driver's side)

so to answer your question. No, the 302 pump will not work on a 260, unless someone has changed your timing cover to a later style cover.. What timing cover do you have? Part # ?
