Does the knob on the gear shifter (automatic, column shift) unscrew? I just bought a replacement and awaiting it to come in the mail and before I use a monkey wrench to torque it off I would appreciate some input in how to take it off.

I can't say for absolute for every column-shift knob, but all of the ones I've experienced are pressed on the shaft.

Any tips on how to get the old one off? Heat the old knob/try cooling the shaft?
