347 Stroker

So I have this '64 block that just passed the mag test for a stroker project. I'd like to get folks's 2 cents on names for crank/rods/pistons. I'm not a big SCAT fan as I've seen what the balancer has to do just to bring them in close (kinda looks like swiss cheese).

Just looking to eventually put together a long lasting street application.

Anybody?...............Anybody?.................Bueller?

I ran a low 10 second Mustang with a 347 that used an OEM nodular Cleveland crank. I raced it for 4 years without any more than valve adjusting. Use a main stud girdle and some good rods.

The 1964 289 engine was designed for the 5 bolt bell housing. This will only fit earlier transmissions.

Check out this place. I have about decided to use these people for my build when I get ready to do it.

I've always heard that the 347's don't last that long due to the piston pin being so high up that its in the ring lands of the pistons. The 331 strokers don't have this problem.

Good thing for my "66 cruise-o-matic housing with my c4 valve body/shift kit and TCI stall converter. Wink

Like the Probe pistons, but there are a couple few other manufacturers I've heard mention in passing that have the wrist pin hole just below the oil ring groove eliminating the oil burning issue. Just curoius on the few good names out there. Rolling Eyes

Thanks for all the info up to this point guys Smile

If you go to www.strokerengines.com on the page for the 331/347 motors he says as an engine builder it is safer for him to recommend a 331, but as a hotrodder he would go for the 347.He also gets into a little bit of detail on the 331 vs347 argument.

I have used a Coast Performance 341 kit for several years of drag racing and close course road racing and have never experianced any oiling problems. Another thing you might want to think about is that the 289 hase a shorter cylinder length than the 302 block, I think you will find that you will need that extra length with the stroke you are suggesting.
