By checking the car's build date against the casting date codes on the parts you're trying to verify.
You're generally looking for no more than two months to the car's build date on the parts build date. Obviously, the part couldn't have existed after the car was built.
You may also find the engine tag on the coil bracket or the A/C compressor housing if so equipped. This tag will decode the build date and engine application.
It is not at all like GM with specific codes that relate to a specific car.
