Ok, what is up with these 66 Fairlane washer pumps?
Just bought an NOS pump off of Ebay and the thing doesn't work. It would jump around and quiver but wouldn't really pump. As my aggravation grew I decided to take it apart, knowing this would be a terminal procedure. After the terminal disassembly; I couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Has anyone been able to get these things working when they weren't? It looks like there was a small rubber flapper valve that may have been stuck I wonder if some type of lube would have freed it up, maybe some type of silicone lubricant? These things are painfully simple.

I don't know. i have a brand new, reproduction pump that does the same thing. If you tap on it, it will rattle a few times and then stop. i will never even use the wipers, so I don't worry about it. Still it is irratating to just know that something doesn't work.

Where'd you get the repop from?
Howdy. I'm trying to get one, was gonna use Dearborn Classics. Not to start any complaints, and I guess most of 'em are from the same source, but where did you get your bad repop from? Thanks, Scott _________________ 66 Fairlane GT

I don't recall, but I don't think it makes any difference. I doubt that there is more than one manufacturer for them. It is probably a cheap China repro that everyone sells. I didn't bother attempting to return it because I had it for several months before hooking it up & trying it.

My 69 has the same problems, the pump was replaced every 2 years for a decade, I just removed the pump and fluid resevoir, problem solved. _________________ ----------------------------------------

Maybe time to Zone out!
Based on the commets above I'm thinking of just going to Autozone/Napa/Carquest or whatever and finding some kind of universal replacement pump then wiring that up. Sounds cheaper and less frustrating, even tho it ain't original! Thanks for the heads up!

An additional thought would be checking out a junkyard and finding something easily mounted that you can pull out of a late model mustang or fairmont or any model that can easily route in and wire up! _________________ MET

On my 67 washer pump it does not really run constant like a new style. Instead it kinda pulses and squirts the fluid that way if I remember right.. I think you work the pump by engaging the switch in the car off and on over and over till fluid comes out the window squirters. Maybe try puttin it on and hooking everything up with fluid and it may work. Thats what I done with mine after a strange bench test like yours.. Just a thought..
Jemmons I hate to tell you this but I think the quivers is the way they work..

If you are not concerned for originality, I think the '69 reservoir with the internal pump is the cleanest set-up.

Yeah, I remember the pump on my first Fairlane
a LONG time ago sounded like a jet taking off. Upon disassembly I discovered that the pump mechanism jumps up and down in a closed cylinder to cause the pumping action. I can't imagine the simple thing not working. I am stuck on originality so I will be sorting this aggravation out somehow. Fortunately the Ebay seller is sending me another pump and I didn't even push the issue since I hacked the first one into mico-pieces. Lucky me...Thanks fellas. Joe
