I have a 66 xl and a 67 gta.the 66 xl body is realy in better condition than the 67 gta. so i started a body restoration of the 66 that have the 289 engine and c4 tranny.my question is, what the fairlaner´s enthusiast recommend, to pass all the mechanics of the 67 gta to the 66?including engine,tranny and rear axle or mantain the originality of the 66?is there big difference to drive an 289 car to a 390?i really want smoothness and quiet drive.

I agree with edwardejv, build the one with the better body of the two then put the better motor and running gear in that fairlane. The main difference between driving a 390 motor compared to a 289 is more horsepower if the motors are stock, but you get used to that and drive accordingly.
