I have a fordomatic but am no expert but perhaps you have lost vacuum or have a clog , Have you replaced the torque converter?

Well, Beatnic, if appears that if you
have swapped transmissions and even
rebuilt one of them, then the problem is likely
not IN the trans. What's left ?
My guess is your problem has to do with the
trans. downshift linkage, which connects to the bellcrank
that also operates your throttle. If your kickdown linkage
is binding, or out of adjustment, it can cause the very
problem you're having.
If you can go to your local library, or if you have access to
an older Motor Repair Manual, it has adjustment procedures
for your car, and the different year models that have different
procedures.
Though you don't list the year of your tranny or the
type car it came in, I'm sure the answer to your problem will
be solved by checking this. The adjustment for all early 60's
model cars are listed in my 1968 Motor Repair Manual, so
that's about the year book you should look for, or earlier.
Good Luck with it ! _________________

That sounds like solid advice. I have a 1964 ford manual and it may have the specific info in it too. I will be happy to check it if need be.

Transmission
First thing I would do is disconnect the downshift rod from the bellcrank and see if the problem goes away _________________ 1963 Fairlane Sports Coupe

rebuild
How would you know if the used parts you used were any better than parts you replaced?
What about all the seals? I'm not trannny expert for sure, but, when we rebuilt the old 2 speed, this was 10 yrs ago, we used what we thought was a good Fordomatic for parts, had a cracked case & samething happened, parts in the new trans were worn out too! _________________ roger powell

trans geeks
You may want to go to a real C-4 forum where trans guys lurk
there is a really good C-4 dedicated site over at fordmuscle.com
You simply have to join up, not necessarily become a member to post questions.
Very expierenced C-4 guys over there _________________ roger powell
