62 4 door find
Submitted for your approval....
My son was cruising salvage yards around Edwardsville Il to replace a hubcap of of his (god help me) Chevy when he found a '62 Fairlane 4 door.
Today we went to look for parts that would match our 63. We took the gauge pod (perfect) and the rear fuel door for the emblem. When you tell a salvage guy you want an emblem the price goes way up...I got the fuel door for $10 including the emblem. The gauge pod I got for $30.
Parts still there:
All sheet metal in good shape.
Front bumper fair shape
Manual tranny still attached (no engine)
Front suspension parts. (Rear end gone\springs still attached) 5 bolt hub.
Front and Back glass are in good shape.
Seats are in the car.
All door parts are complete and in good shape.
Wing windows in good shape.
Steering column attached
Original radio
Heater box and hoses.
Front ford emblem
I could go on, but you get the idea.

Are the horns still there? Do you have pictures of the seats? I live in Texas but grew up in Greenville, Illinois so I know the area. If they are in decent shape, I may just take the drive up that way to get them and see my family at the same time. Thanks for the post.

That car looks awfully clean for an Illinois car.........unless it came from further south (or Pacific Northwest).

Could be a barn find or someone died who kept it in a garage for years. It had 71,000 and change on the odometer. _________________ 1963 Fairlane 500 4 Door w/'68 J Code 302 4V and FMX

Roger, the grill was in great shape as are the headlight beezles. The black paint on the beezels needs touch up, but otherwise ready to go. I wish I had the means to buy the whole car and part it out. _________________ 1963 Fairlane 500 4 Door w/'68 J Code 302 4V and FMX

I am planning a trip to this car next weekend over memorial day (I need a better drivers fender.....might grab both if they are clean)
Roger....I was thinking of grabbing the front end sheetmetal since it is hard to find clean and complete setups.....plus I pretty much will have to pull it to get the fenders off. Pm me after the holiday weekend and we can work something out.
if anyone is looking for anythign else off this car PM me this week and I will put it on the list of things to pull. I would grab the whole car (those sure are clean quarters) but no space for it at the house.

this car is a POS. Drove up there (as part of my trip to midstate IL for the holiday) both fenders are rotted through, every piece of chrome is damaged in some way, car is tetering on top of a ford ranger cab (you could rock it with one finger) front bumper is pretty straight but has a couple dings in it and OK chrome (def not show quality but good enough for a daily) Has good glass and that is about it.
170 inline six 3 speed on the column car. has the stock radio no lighter (as most non 500's are)
I would have pulled parts from it but didn't feel like getting killed for parts I don't need. could be a good donor for a clutch pedal and linkage.
Quarters are pretty solid from what I could see. _________________ 1962 Fairlane- 250" aussie inline six cleveland, T5, hydroboost disc brakes, power steering, EFI....the list goes on.

I personally have never shopped for "show quality" parts in a junk yard. The door are great. The door hardware is great. Inside door panels are in good condition. I guess one mans POS is another mans treasure. My son is 6'6" and 280. He took the dash pod out and the car didn't fall.
Adventure is where you find it. _________________ 1963 Fairlane 500 4 Door w/'68 J Code 302 4V and FMX
