ever had this happen to you?
took my fairlane on a 50 mile round trip today. as i was coming back, it started dying out on me like it was starving for fuel. i putted along alittle farther and started hearing a clacking noise, then i smelled alittle burnt oil. i pull over and raise the hood and.......................
the dang fuel pump bolts are gone and the fuel pump is flopping!
only thing i can figure is that over time they vibrated out, the fuel lines were holding the pump close enough to the block to keep it working enough for it to idle.
thank goodness i keep a small toolbox of common tools in the trunk, i was out in the middle of nowhere. i took the dipstick bracket bolt out to use to bolt the pump back on, but it was too short. i took out an intake bolt but it was too long. so i took a bolt out of each side of the water pump and bolted the fuel pump back on and eased on home.
that was a first for me, never had a fuel pump come loose on me before.

You got lucky thats for sure. I have never had that happen to me. I guess just put some red loc-tite on when you put the new bolts in. _________________ Red 1967 Ford Fairlane convertible with built 289, 4.11s and T5!

I had the starter fall out of the 67 I had in highschool, I came out of a store and tried to start it and all it did was spin, crawled underneath it and the starter was lying on the header, it had started fine five minutes earlier at my house.
I guess double checking bolts is always a good idea.

I have found a starter motor lying out in the middle of the road once. I thought it might of been mine...i looked closer and it wasn't so i moved it out of the way.
Also had a friend and his starter fell out along with the cable or it just snapped off of that. _________________ Red 1967 Ford Fairlane convertible with built 289, 4.11s and T5!

Back in high school, a friend of mine was driving down the street, his back tire came off & passed him! At the time, I thought it was funny but looking back on it, that could have caused some real damage and it wouldn't have been so funny if it happened to me. _________________ 1966 500XL 390 C6 Mostly stock at the moment.
