rebuilding my trans, the original fluid in the day was type f, but should i use type f or upgrade to a newer fluid

if your rebuilt clutches are old or NOS, then stick with Type F, which is a suoperior fluid anyways, and is compatible with the materials in the them... Unless the rebuild kit manufacturer says use mercon or something else, stick with the Type F..
