66 GTA fever

Car sat in E Washington state since last tabs on plate is 1988. Purchased in Mar 2009. Goal was complte resto in three years.
Restoration well under way. Car gutted including suspension removed.
Dearborn interior kit 2 purchased. Parchment seat covers installed.
Underside reconditioned, left qtr replaced.
9", 3.00, open rear with new carrier bearings, axle seals.
New brakes/brake hoses all around.
New leaf bushings, new front steering components, upper a arms, all new ball joints.
GT 390 engine rebuilt to stock, .030 over, 335hp/425ftlb torque, eldelbrock performer intake with summit 600 cfm carb.
C6 GTA trans was rebuilt prior. We'll see!
Small area of dr floor pan replaced.
Exterior paint stripped and primed.
Next final body work and paint!
This is my first car project. More work, time and $ than expected!
Had a 64 Fairlane in 1970 in the Navy. Alaways wanted a 66/67.

Those photos bring back memories.

When I bought my '66 GTA in 1974, the body was in worse shape than yours was! Being in high school at the time, I simply patched the rust in the floors and body panels, but the structural rust remained. The engine ran, but was an oil burner. I rebuilt the engine .060" over and found broken rings, cracked pistons and worn off cam lobes.

I later bought a rust-free Fairlane out of Colorado, stripped the parts off of it, had it painted, and move the GTA components to the rust-free shall. I wish I had photo documentation of all the work, but digital photography was not around at the time. The few photos that I did take are here:

Good luck with your restoration. It looks like it is coming along well. What color are you going to paint it?
