SROD 4 spd trans In a 67 Fairlane

Currently rolling with a 3 spd column shift, so you can understand my want to swap! I found a buddy who has a 82 mustang roller he bought a year ago. It came with the 5.0 and SROD 4 spd tranny. I am wondering what is needed to make this work.
-Will my current 289 bellhousing work?
- Any adapter plates needed?
-Currently have bench seats, will this be a problem? I know T5's wouldnt.
-Basically asking, will this be a straight forward install??

Thanks in advance yall!
Tanner from Texas

Wouldn't make a good lamp....

The SROD was a Borg-Warner trans used in the then new 82 GT mustang. They also used them in 4 and 6 cyl apps from 1977 on up in fairmonts. These trans have about the worst gear ratios as you could get, and 4th gear is an overdrive, with the 4 cylinder trannies being even worse than bad.. The torque rating is very weak. IMHO, it isn't work the effort. at the very least, find a T-5 from a V8 mustang 85 or newer, with the later years being better. These are not that expensive for the basic T-5's...

T-5's are doable, you just need the right shifter

to get the clearance..... BTW, my last name is Tanner, also...

I am not the t-5 expert, but my understanding is the last two years this was installed in Mustangs, the pilot shaft was longer than the earlier models. The 1993 is probably the last year that would fit your car.

I installed an earlier model in my 64. The shifting tower was right up against the bench seat. I installed the shift lever backwards for clearance. I will have to have a different lever made so I can shift without reaching.
