Best Radiator??
Building the 347 as we speak for my '63 SC. Using a Scat forged, H beam and KB Hype, Comp hyd roller, Ford racing heads, Doug's Tri-Y w/4speed and 350 gears. Had to go .060 to clean up a gouge in one cyl. It's a 5 bolt 289 block so couldn't just pick up another easily. Would like some input from some of you that have run 347's as to what radiator to run. Most likely will have a higher operating temp because of the .060" bore. _________________ '63 SC painted and ready for the 347 stroker, 4 spd, 8" 3:50rear

I have a 347 stroker in my 63 SC built by proformanceunlimited.com I have aluminum heads, high flow water pump and ford 5 blade fan on my car. I bought the Griffin aluminum radiator out of the Autokrafters catalog for the 62-65 fairlane. It will not gor over 160 degrees.

Crites...
Howdy. I'm running the Crites radiator for my 390, it's made by Howe and I believe it's a semi-custom deal that Charles gets. Upper radiator hose connection is a pain, if you go that way I can help. FWIW, Scott _________________ 66 Fairlane GT

The Griffin can be had with either a custom "to fit" style specifically for the '63 or a model without the mounts (as most other mfgers do). I'm wondering if the stock size will give enough cooling potential. I haven't run an aluminum radiator before so I'm not familiar with it's performance. Also, my first at anything other than a stock bore/stroke engine. The last thing I want is to get it completed and have a cooling problem. Not familiar with the Crites/Howe rad.
Thanks for the input-- _________________ '63 SC painted and ready for the 347 stroker, 4 spd, 8" 3:50rear

I got a 3 core aluminum with an electric fan off of e-bay for $205 + shipping
it's a Champion brand, quality appears to be top shelf.

Dave-couple of questions????? At that price I'm assuming that it's NOT a direct fit, right?---and used? Is it welded or bonded construction? I'm leaning toward a standard (not custom fit) and building my own saddles. Any experience here? _________________ '63 SC painted and ready for the 347 stroker, 4 spd, 8" 3:50rear

Brand new bolted right in and it is all welded no epoxy and it has a good warranty.

Hey NO FAIR-checked on the rad you got looks good. It seems to be a vertical flow. How do you think it compares to a cross flow w/2 cores? _________________ '63 SC painted and ready for the 347 stroker, 4 spd, 8" 3:50rear

Not sure about the cross flow but anytime you have more rows working for you the better. Mine is rated for 700 hp, I am probably around 650 hp. So only time will tell if it does the job since my motor isn't running yet.

'Nuff said, NO FAIR. Guess I'll talk to their Tech Dept and most likely get one ordered. Thanks everyone for the input. _________________ '63 SC painted and ready for the 347 stroker, 4 spd, 8" 3:50rear

I agree, I have the same e-bay Champion and have had if for a year, perfect fit, keeps the 351 cool, no complaints. _________________ ----------------------------------------

Guess I'm not done asking for advise. I have no experience with electric cooling fans--I'm pretty old school. Any thoughts/advise on whether to go with an electric fan or not? Pros/Cons-- _________________ '63 SC painted and ready for the 347 stroker, 4 spd, 8" 3:50rear

Depends on your application. The more stuff running off of your crankshaft is parasitic loss. I wanted to free up horse power so I went to an electric waterpump and electric fan.
