460/429 headers
Hello all,
I'm new to this forum but I'm hoping to get some good tech info that I'm having trouble getting on some other sites.
I have a 64 Fairlane and I am collecting parts to put a 460 backed by a Toploader 4 speed. I have seen several suppliers that sell headers for the 460/429 block with an auto trans but none with the manual trans. I'm sure this has been done before can anyone point me in the right direction?
Are 4 speed headers available?
Can the auto headers be modified?
If the linkage is the problem is there a modern cable set up available?
Thanks,
Rick

Crites And Maddog carry FE/4-speed or 385/auto only not the 385(460/429)/4-speed Toploader combo that I am seeking.
Thanks

Or if you want to drop the coin you can have some custom headers made.
I believe to make a 385 series fit you HAVE to notch the shock towers (crites makes a nice kit for) since you will be notching you should be able to get some nice headers made that will flow good, unlike the Crites/maddog which have the immediate turn down that doesn't flow good.

Yes I have all of the Crites stuff and the shock towers are already cut. I was just trying to find out why there are no 460/4 speed headers on the market. I already have the motor apart and the 4 speed rebuilt, but before I spend a load of cash on a combo that won't work I wanted to know the obsticles and how to avoid making mistakes. I have my heart set on a toploader. I talked to Crites about their headers and they just tell me they won't work with the toploader but not why. I assume it's the Z bar linkage. Maddog just said they don't offer them for my combo. I'm just looking for someone who has already been successful to share the wealth.

Try posting the same question at www.460ford.com - LOTS of members there, including quite a few with Fairlanes. Might find someone with a 4 sp.
Good luck,

Tried 460ford .com with no real answers yet. Also tried FPA for headers also not offered. I'm getting discouraged. Anyone have info on a hydro clutch set up that's available ?

429/460 headers
Go to 460ford site and do a search for post started by username patfromjersey. He has a 66 Fairlane with a 460 and toploader, with crites headers. He also made up his own hydraulic clutch setup. _________________ 66 fairlane gta
