new 64 4 dr.

Just got approval to post! I've got a 64 Fairlane, 4 dr, 260, 3 on the tree. 57K orig. miles. Its got front framerail rot that needs to be repaired. I've got the Crites pieces, and will do the repair soon. Other stuff to do: replace radiator (leaked after press. check and cleaning), remove the mouse nest from the heater box (man....he was a busy rodent!), detail the engine bay, find a rechromed rear bumper and install some nice tires. The bias plys on there have been there since the 70s!

I've got nothing against 4 dr.s I've got 3 kids to tote around, and a 2 dr. is a hassle. I would expect to pay 4 times more for a 2dr. vs. my 4dr, in similar condition, just because of the "desireability" factor.

Glad to be here.

Yeiks! That's a nasty case of rail rot you've got there! I really like the red on silver paint scheme.

Here's the latest;

Both front frame rails and the radiator crossmember were changed out. the engine was detailed and treated to a new radiator, hoses, waterpump, fuel pump, thermostat, plugs, points, cap, rotor and wires. The heaterbox was rebuilt and de-moused. Rear seatbelts added, but I still can't get the front ones to slide!!!

I had to rebuild the carb, that will go on tomorrow!

Still "to do" replace windshield, install new windlace, re-dye carpet red.
In the "Would be nice to do someday" ; new dual exhaust!

No I'm so friggin pissed off I can't see straight. I can't keep the car running more than 1 min or so.

Flushed fuel tank, new fuel pump, new inline fuel filter in front of the carb.
At first, I tired to run the car as is. It would idle smooth at 700 rpm, but would not run smooth at the set idle speed of 500...just no way. Hit the gas and she stalled.

I take the carb to a reputable shop for a rebuild. It looks great, they told me the carb was all crudded up internally and the accel pump was bad.

So I install the new carb, the builder said keep the mix. screws at 3 turns to start, so I did. It started up to 1500 rpm, idled down somewhat to 900 as she warmed up. twist the linkage, she spooled right up.

I tweaked the screws in to 2 turn, it ran rougher, and stalled. Put everyting back to 3 turns. Now I barely starts. It idles 5 sec., then real rough, then stalls. Of course the carb shop is closed now. Checkk the fuel flow at the carb....yes, good fuel flow. I'm NOT happy.

I so f'in disgusted. I wanted the drive it.....but I can't keep it running.
Any words of wisdom? Before I smash the f'ing shit out of the car with sledge hammer? yes...I have NO patience.
