What rear end do I have

I have a new project car that came with a rear end that I can not identify. the car is a 68 Torino GT that had been used for racing, it is not running as it is in the beginning stages of a total restoration. but the rear wheels appear to be locked at all times. there is no name on the housing, leading me to believe that it is a Ford optional 9". Everything turns freely so i have ruled out damage of any kind. I would appreciate any helpful responses as i am totally outgunned on thius one. thanks

Sounds like you have a spool in there. If it is a 9 inch, it will have a removable carrier from the front and you will need to use a wrench, not a socket to remove the two lowest bolts that hold the center section to the housing. Pull your axles and remove it to be sure if it has a spool. You really don't want that for a street car. Twisted axles will eventually result.

Thanks Steve, What little additional information I was able to gather supports your reply. There are some casting numbers on the housing.
