New project

Just got me a 67 Fairlane 500XL. Plans are to give it a makeover and make it look purdy and building the drivetrain. I will probably be askin a few questions here and there. Can't wait to get started.

Looks like you've got a good body to start out with, that's a big plus.

Yeah, I was watching that auction hard as well. I think you got a good deal. Nice solid body to start with and a cool color combo. Those floor pans look cherry. Only problem for me was that, as usual, it was on the other side of the country. Some day soon. Good luck with your new ride! What do you have planned for it?

I live in WA and the car is down in CA so I haven't even seen it besides pictures. I talked to the owner. Awesome guy to talk with. He says that the pans are solid the only small amount of rot is in the lower front 1/4 panels. No bad rust on the under side and the frame is solid. He sounded like a real honest dude and said with no doupt I am going to be extremely happy with the car. I am sure it will be way better then what I have looked at here in the WA state Rolling Eyes .

My plans are to paint in pink and put chevy 4x4 running gear under it Shocked

Just kidding! I am going to restore it to driver/show quality. Build the 289 and put an injection system on it. Put a 9" rearend in it with a Truetrac. Interior will be done back to origonal (black) and I would like to paint it candy apple red instead of the aqua blue color. I would like to put a GT hood on it, but might leave it stock. I have lots of time to change my mind Rolling Eyes

First I have to sell my 71 Highboy to make room. I will miss that truck, but it needs a new owner that wants to restore it.

Doug is a friend of mine, who used to live here in Iowa. I was out there last week and took those pictures and posted the auction for him. You will find it exactly as listed. As stated, there has been a repair performed, (presumably for rust) behind the LR wheel. Under the car is perfect. Although the front fenders could easily be patched, there is a guy right there in Sacramento that surely would have a pair of rust-free replacements. (Jeff @ A&M Dismantling 1-800-700-4426) He has a yard full of 60's Fords. I was there while I was out there and got some goodies.

My '66 Coupe came from Sacramento. Doug found the car for me in 2000.

I am working on a '69 GT500 clone for Doug now, and when it's done that white T-bolt in the background is coming here for me to work on. I can't wait for that one!

He mentioned that he had someone come out and take the pictures and was also going to send his T-bolt away to be finished to the same person (which was you). I think he mentioned you were a big fairlane freak or maybe that was the dude with the yard. Doug sounds like a top notch guy. Easy to talk to.

I will have to check that place out and see if he has any good fenders if the ones on the car are in real bad shape. I am hoping the car body is going to be an easy resto job. I don't mind small amounts of rust, but rotten panels and frames kill me. Drivetrains are what I like the best.

Got the 67 home. 27 hour round trip. Had a good time. It snowed on the way home. Doug is a good guy to chat with. The car is in really really nice shape. The underside is dang near flawless. The body is going to be real easy to restore. It runs and drives, but smokes. I will keep the 289 and rebuild it. Not sure if I will run a fuel injection system yet of not. I have lots of time to think about it.
