164 tooth vs 157 tooth

My C-4 gear Vendor over/underdrive uses a 157 toth flywheel not a 164 like the AOD did.
The starter will not engage the 157 tooth flywheel, i;m assuming its overall diameter is smaller.
Any idea;s on how i proceed? Is there a starter with a larger cogged end i should be using.
I have not run into this problem before & have no clue as to a fix
Help!!!

You didn't end up with a large (164 tooth) C4 did you Roger? I am stumped too. Haven't heard of this problem unless you should be using a 164 tooth plate. AOD works great. Don't think it has the lower first gears though.

flex or no

The tranny builder is the guy who told me to get the 157 tooth because i had a small bell C-4, he builds em all the time so i gotta assume he;s right.
He says there is a starter specific to this small bell/157 tooth set up, i;m trying to source now.
I;m positive the AOD has the low first, going by a run with my neighbours AOD equipped late model stang, unless he had some kind of tall first, it sure is!another day of this & i may ask for that AOD back!

bell

Wouldn;t you know it, because the bell was a bolt on the tranny guy asumed it was a small 157 tooth , it ain;t ,its the 164 toth flywheel.
so, out comes the tranny again, and the convertor won;t fit of course.
so, at least they are re-reing at their cost.
JPT is taking back the convertor for a good 280 stall to fit.
Just so you know, TCI does make a bell housing to replace the stock C-4 bel that wil accomodate both 164-157 tooth flywheels & is drilled for any starter combo including powermaster Hi-torgs, which i am using.
Steve:
I talked to Nolans Racing & the first gear is a perf. parts Ford low first . Not the lowest but to compliment the other 3 ratios as suggested by Lentech Racing Trans.

TCI

I am right down the road from TCI and have quite a few friends there, if you need anything let me know and I will put you in touch with one of them! I race with most of those guys...

appreciate your help & will let you know hiw it goes.
the performance shop is asking me to send all the info you guys have provided, i guess most of the shops, in this area anyeway have realized that they better get their Ford info together as we are not going away!
