63 2speed automatic
I am just getting a 63 2 dr hardtop 500 with a 2speed in it, what would be the easiest replacement trans to put in it, the 2 speed works but it seems a 3 speed would be much better..

Im pulling my 2 speed for a c4. Install looks straight forward. Need to rework the column to get the pattern correct. Even looked into dropping a t5 into it, but a bit more work.

Remember to count your housing bolts. The two speed is a five bolt housing. You have to find a five bolt housing for any other trans or find an adapter. _________________ 1963 Fairlane 500 4 Door w/'68 J Code 302 4V and FMX

I removed the 2-speed when I changed to the 302. I kept the 2-speed in as log as I could because of the difficulty finding a five bolt housed c-4. I have been told that they are out there but I could not find one. The c-4 is a longer tranny. Adjustments will have to be made. I had to fab a tranny support for my FMX but the drive shaft did not have to be changed. I did have to change the u-joint though. Your gear ratio will also change and that will effect your speedometer. _________________ 1963 Fairlane 500 4 Door w/'68 J Code 302 4V and FMX

You will need the five bolt C4 bellhousing with block plate which was used in late '63 and early '64. Expect to pay about $125.00 on e-bay. If it doen't have the block plate, you can get a six bolt plate at the local junk yard and modify it by drilling additional holes. But look at the picture and count the holes! There are a few people out there that have no idea of what they are selling. (Better than calling them crooks.)
Your drive shaft is too long and too small in diameter. Find a 289/302 driveshaft in the local U-Pull-It and have it cut down. The C4 yoke is different from the FM.
Later!
Mr. Ed
