putting an FE in a 289 car: what do you need to change?
66/67 models:
if you wanted to put an Fe in a factory 289 car, what all would need to be upgraded/changed? A couple of things that I already know are the coil springs and the sway bar. What else? _________________ NMCB 28 Seabee Battalion

Springs!
Howdy. Just FYI, don't go gettin' all pricey on the springs. It seems they are still widely available NEW and at REASONABLE prices! Look at RockAuto for prices and parts:
I'd be tempted to go with the MOOG Part # 8346 and maybe cut 1/2 coil from 'em to raise the rate a little and lower the car 3/4" or so. $75 a pair!
FWIW, Scott
Oh, and here's your sway bar. Great seller. You'll need a Wix 15156 filter to make it fit.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on the coil springs! I figured they would be several hundred dollars. I actually have a big sway bar on a wrecked GTA that I could use, I'll just need to buy new bushings. _________________ NMCB 28 Seabee Battalion

Dont waste your time with the 352. Its the same as a 390, which is all weight on the front of the car. You are better off with a stroked 351W

I love big cubic inches. It is just not realistic for streetcar. Defairlane is right a stroked windsor spanks a 390 all day. Half the cost, more power and less weight.

What we have, though, is a 428 SCJ that came out of a totaled 69 Mustang, and a 3-duece setup off an early 60's Galaxie to put on top. Being such a rare (and powerful) engine, we want to be sure to make use of it.
We have no experience at all with the stroked Windsors; wouldn't the setup I just mentioned be more powerful? _________________ NMCB 28 Seabee Battalion

Wow!
To think all those guys running FE's in NHRA Stock Eliminator cars that run high 10's and low 11's are wasting their time!
Put an aluminum intake on a FE and weigh it. _________________ Scott

What does an aluminum intaked FE weigh? Those stock eliminator guys have lots of cash in there cars. If I had a good SCJ laying around it would go in for sure. If I was building one it would be different.
