The west coast sure seems to get hit the hardest. According to gasbuddy.com the lowest price in Seattle is $2.75/gallon for regular unleaded. It is also hard to tell the difference because of gas tax. I know WA state has a high gas tax. I suspect Oregon and California do as well.

I always like the idea that gas prices keep going up making it seem like there is a fuel shortage yet those damned oil companies rake in record profits.

I also don't understand why diesel is more than premium unleaded. What is the point of driving a diesel powered vehicle. When I was in Germany a little over a year ago diesel was less expensive by about 10 cents/liter. That adds up pretty quick considering that the Audi A4 (not quite the luxury car it is made into over here...still nice nonetheless) powered by a 2.0 TDI got 40 MPG. We usually maintained a speed of about 96MPH. It was incredible and the amount of power it had was so much fun. You could take off from a standstill and when that turbo kicked in, which was usually at around 1300 RPM or so the front tires broke loose. I was all grins. I have also grown up with diesel vehicles. The new ones are by far superior. Virtually no smell, no noise and boy are they fast. I was reading an article about diesel and an Audi engineer said that the Europeans have diesels for driving pleasure.

I also think that the emissions are so strict for diesels now was all started by the American auto manufacturers all aimed to not allow fuel efficient diesels in the states. It would hurt the auto industry too much if they did allow the diesels in. But now the Germans have pioneered a way to eliminate the NOx and I feel shoved it right back in the EPA's face. They took it as an opportunity to pioneer new technology. Something that i fail to see from the US car makers. Except for maybe GM, but it still seems like a joke. Although I do like that the cylinder deactivation came back and works very smoothly I must add.

All in all I think that all of the car makers, or at least all car makers by region need to work together in order to reduce emissions and reduce dependency on fuels.

All right...I will get off my soap box now.

I have a cousin in his late 50's that's in management at Hunt Oil Co. in Tuscaloosa Alabama, and has been there for over 30 years, and he says the exact same thing. He said there isn't even half the refining in the production of diesel fuel that there is in gasoline, that there is no excuse for diesel being higher. None whatsoever. Confused

Diesel is @ 50cents a liter cheaper than regular gas here in NZ, but they also get stung with a road users charge where they have to pay so much per km they drive. Unless you are doing alot of km's it isn't worth having a diesel.

clean diesel

I remember reading something about the enactment of a new cleaner burning diesel fuel. This could be why the diesel fuel price shot up and has stayed that way.

That is could be true. They are just getting more sulfur out of the fuel. I think it is an excuse on the oil companies part.
