Ex.disc emerg.brake

Anyone who has done the Explorer rear disc brake swap on their F;lane?
What did you do to adapt your Emerg.brake cables to the Explorer brake lever on backing plates?

Lokar Performance has a clevis specifically for the Explorer disc conversion.

what gives?

Am i missing something here.
the clevis, to make your stock X-brake cables adapt to the Explorer rear emergency brake lever, it only has a small hole in it to fit over the knob on end of the cable,
the clevis needs a slot in it to slip over that knob, which it doesn;t have.
the cable, as you know is one continous cable, side to side.
I;m assuming that ball on the end is not something that just comes off, so am i missing something?
Will i have to grove the clevis to slip it on?
Or am i missing an easy solution?

Why are you guys messing around with Explorer rear discs???? They are not a direct bolt on to the 8 & 9" housings up thru 1972. (Explorers us LARGE bearings.) The Crown Vic rear disc conversion is a direct fit in terms of bearing size. Housing flanges do need to be modified slightly, but it is an easy job.

If you have questions about the Crown Vic parts, please email me and I can fill you in, or see my auctions under ebay ID "fastmerc" and I may or may not have auctions with all the parts needed.

Had I known how easy this swap was 10 years ago, I NEVER would have putzed around putting a Versailles rearend in my Squire. Too heavy, and too expensive!

cheap, big brakes

Shortening rear end anyway & the Explorer set up is cheap & very efficent.
just add the 9" ends ($60.00)
The only problem i;ve heard with this swap is rears work to well, so front disc upgrade may be in order.

If you have rear disc brakes you don't have to worry about your axle and wheel taking off. It is held by the caliper and rotor. (unless they break, which would be unlikely)

Just a point of clarity here.....

IF you decide to go the Explorer route, you will be converting your axle housing ends to what Currie Ent., calls the "Torino" end, which is a large bearing end, so you will be changing axle bearings too. The flange bolt pattern is somewhere in between the small and large patterns..... go figure!

As for performance differences, the Explorer rotor is no larger in diamter than the one from the Crown Vic. Only thing I can think of is that the Explorer may have a larger wheel bolt pattern??? 5 on 5"??? Can't remember....

Anyway, before you go cutting up your old housings, you may want to consider the "why am I doing this factor...."

All the later Crown Vics should be 5 on 4.5. I loooked at the Explorer option for my 67 but opted to go the Wilwood route (mostly for the coolness factor and they matched my wilwood fronts) which uses the Explorer shoes and hardware for the parking brake.

Ex. bolt pattern is 5 on 4.5 too
As i said i had to shorten 8.8" anyway & the Currie package comes highly reccomended & economical too.
On stopping power, just reading article in Car craft, a falcon i think,
big problems with rears locking up first,
Their throry is the big Explrorer rears are a little to good & over power fronts.
But, i;m not to worried that its not something thats an easy fix,
an adj prop valve should do
I think they were running big & little too, which can cause lock up,eh?

the kit Currie sells is the same as the FRPP kit (M2300G) the kit retails for $379.00 through FRPP and fits the 9" and the large flange 8.8, it's a clean kit and installs easily.
