63 Fairlane lower fender mounting

Ok, stupid question. At the bottom of the rearmost fender mounting at the rocker, How does the fender bolt on? I did not remove the fenders. I looked at the botom of the rocker, there is a slotted hole, no threaded nut or mount. Am I missing a piece or special bolt??

Shoot Scott, all you had to do is call me.

I remember the bolt in the door jamb, but don't recall the one at the bottom of the fender. I'm off all week, I'll try to remember to look tomorrow when I'm out changing the oil in my Sport Trac (rolled the Amigo, I think I told you).

Are you going to Tulsa this year?

Larry

Larry, I figured out a captured nut that I can slide in the rocker.
I am curious what was there though.
I haven't thought that far ahead yet to Tulsa yet. It would depend on funds, gas prices and my cars progress.
Take your time looking at your car for that fender mounting. I have a viable mounting method made up, but if you come up with the factory mounting, I am curious. I have tried to be carefull not to misplace any hardware.

What I found on the passenger side was a rust nut frozen in the hole. On the driver's side I found nothing. But I've rotated the car several times on the rotisserie so whatever might have been in there may have shifted.

I'll probably take a rectangle of sheet metal and weld a nut to it over a hole in the center. I'll then cut the long ends of the rectangle as if I were going to cut a capital H out of the sheet metal, but I'll only make the up and down cuts, not the cross cuts. So now there are 3 tabs on each side of the nut, the center tab should be narrower than the slot. Bend the side tabs down away from the nut and put the assembly with the nut up, into the slot and twist 90 degrees and then bend the tabs up. This should allow the nut assembly to slide forwards and backwards.

Should this prove too difficult, I may just take a hole saw and drill a hole on the inside of the rocker and use a rubber plug to cover the hole like the ones on the bottom of a Mustang that cover the seat bolt access holes. In fact, I may just do that anyway, heck, it'd look factory.
