my 66 Modified Production project

Hey, I'm new here and figured I'd post some pics of my project. Its a 66 Fairlane 500 originally a 6cyl 3-spd that I've built in the style of a 60's Modified Production racer. I dropped in a 70 429, 4-spd, and a 31 spline "N" case 9" with 4.11 gears. It's a work in progress and I'm currently getting all the jambs and cowl painted while I've got the engine out repairing my dropped valve. I'm going with the original color Saturne Gold for a nice sleeper look.

TBolt air intakes?

Nice car! Looks like you might be set up to use Thunderbolt style air intakes - is that the plan? If so photos would be great! Take it easy, Scott

I've been tossin the intake scoop idea around alot, but I cant bring myself to cuttin huge holes in my inner fenders. I think i may just put in some aluminum blanks like an FX car.

Lower headlights...

Howdy and thanks for the response. I thought that since the pic showed no lower headlights that you were leaning that way. You could replace the upper headlights with 2-way city/highway beams and do some hopefully minor rewiring, then use the lower headlight openings as the air intake.

Go ahead, please do it and show pix!

Jes' havin' fun, Scott

Thats what I was thinking as well, but when I got around to puttin in the lights n stuff I started testin stuff and they worked like a 2-way light anyhow. So, no rewiring required. Granted they aren't as bright as they would be if i had 4 lights but they're still plenty bright for raisin h3ll on the back roads of Indiana. The intake scoops is a good possibility since I do need to replace the battery tray area (battery is in the trunk), but I can't bring myself to cuttin the drivers inner fender. I'd have to relocate my 70 Torino washer jug that I'm using as an overflow. Only time will tell though.

Thanks for the interest
mike

headlight upgrade

You might want to convert your headlights to a Madelectrical relay set up thats really easy to install, the end result is headlights about 10X brighter than stock
there is a madelectrical headlight wiring kit for sale at the fairlaner club site for cheap
look under bob Mannels post re-parts for sale
its a really simple upgrade & well worth the effort especially with single headlights.
Great looking F;lane!

No section job there it's just rusty. I had to decide between the one with some rust that was straight or the one with no rust that was bent in the license plate area with a gouge on the corner. lol

Just an update. I've got it ready to put the doghouse back on and put the engine back in. I ran out of gold, but had just enuff to paint the cowl. This pic also shows off my Pro Trac 560x15 front runners well. I think they give the car just the right look with the 15x4 Cragars.

Got the Toploader back together this week. Put in a David Kee 31 spline mainshaft and his universal 31 spline tailhousing. Also tryin my luck with a Hurst Ramrod inline shifter this year.
