AOD Transmission
As anybody put a AOD into a 66-67 Fairlane?
There must be someone out there that has done this. I know I can't be the first one to try this.

I was just wondering today about the possibilty of using late model 4 speed autos behind my 302..... _________________ ----------------------------------------

AOD
I have run AOD's in other projects... if I remember right, it will be about one inch longer overall, which may or may not require you to shorten your driveshaft. If you run a stock valve body, you will need to set up a throttle valve cable to your carb. Some companies offer these... otherwise, it is not that hard to fab up. As far as shifter, I allways ran aftermarket shifters, but if you use something from B&M or such, you order the shifter for a C4 and add their lever kit. _________________ Knowledge is Power

I would like to use the column shifter to give it that real grandma look. I just got a core AOD from the salvage yard to make sure it fits but I am not sure what I all need to do to hook it up and make it work correctly.

Hey oddball-
Why not go with a T5...you get a 4speed with an OD instead of a good ole 1:1 4th ratio.
Just my thoughts. _________________ Red 1967 Ford Fairlane convertible with built 289, 4.11s and T5!

4th gear on an AOD is overdrive. They don't call it an automatic overdrive for nothing. _________________ Steve 64 S/C big brakes 8.8 rear 289 lentech AOD, strut front suspension

Sorry i didn't see that it said 4 speed autos, and thought it just said late model 4 speed.
Also...i would think that it should be called a 3 speed with overdrive...don't know why but makes sense to me. 4 speed to me sounds like 4th gear should be 1:1 anot not a true OD. _________________ Red 1967 Ford Fairlane convertible with built 289, 4.11s and T5!

Lokar makes some column shifter pieces
http://www.lokar.com/interior_pages/colshiftlink.htm
, you also might want to scrounge the wrecking yard for 80 to 91 crown vic shifter linkage pieces, you should be able to piece something together.
Lokar also has universal throttle valve cables if you can't find a early 80's car to rob.

Those look like nice pieces but I am afraid to look at the prices. I go my mock up transmission out of a 86 Vic so i should be good when it comes to robbing other parts from it. Thanks for the help I can use it.
