'66 GTA project car

I recently bought a 1966 Fairlane GTA with a big block (did all GT/A's come with a big block?) and factory A/C (although it appears that the engine has been swapped and the A/C equipment is gone). As far as I can tell, it's complete except for the grill and the rear bumper. Besides the floorpans, this car has five rust holes that are all smaller than a dime...two on the lower PS quarter panel and three in the trunk. The rest of the car is straight and soid.

I've spent the last 6 years restoring '71-73 Mustangs, but I was shown this car and bought it on the spot. I've always wanted a car that was built the year I was born, but a '66 Mustang just doesn't do much for me (aside from maybe a Shelby, but how many of us can afford a real GT350?). I've always loved this body style, especially the over & under headlights. I'm pretty comfortable with vintage Ford restoration work, but I'm sure I'll have plenty of Fairlane/FE specific questions, so I look forward to tapping everyone's expertise.

The 1966 fairlane GTA came with the 390 FE big block only. It wasn't until 1967 that you could option your GTA with a small block. If you try www.woodyg.com/fairlane/firstrt.html you will get an idea of were the main places on a fairlane are to check for rust.

had a guy contact us about some of our galaxies, said he was in arkansas and said he had a good collection of old fords. i told him we were interested in trading for 66/67 fairlanes and he emailed me a pic that looked exactly like that car, said he had just sold it. this was back in the spring/summer. i believe it was your car.
