289 Rebuild Started

I posted a while back ago about if I should rebuild at a local shop or get a remanufactured engine. Well I decided to go with the local shop. I t will beeaiser onn the money if I can do it in stages. I took the heads in last week. $325 for valve job new springs and valve guides and harden seats in the exhaust. I was pleased with the price I hope I will be with the work. I asked some of the older guys at work who have the $ to spend on there hot rods who they used for a machine shop and then i went and visted the place on a saturday. It was what a machine shop is supposed to be. The guys there didnt seem to be idiots. I figure a 66 289 has got to be a pretty basic engine and if you do this for a living it shouldnt be difficult. I did walk around and look at some of the boring machines and such and it didnt look beat and ancient. What else can ya do. I will get the heads back next week and then I will give them the block and I will update you on the price so others can use it as a refernce if they are thinking of a rebuild. I hate that I didnt start this in the winter and will be missing some good crusin weather (like today) but a non heated garage is not where i wanted to spend my time.
