pulley questions
Just bought a 67 Fairlane GTA. It does not have the original engine.
The engine currently has 3 and 2 groove pulleys on it. I want to take them off and install single groove pulleys. Is there a size difference on the gt pulleys compared to the regular ones? Water and crank? Also noticed on e-bay that they sell a harmonic balancer w/single groove pulley for about $75 bucks new. Is it any good? Also is there a difference on the 427 pulleys?
Thanx in advance.... _________________ 67 Fairlane GTA/390

Those Powermaster dampers will not fit a '67 timing cover. The timing pointer intersects the damper. They also use the '68 and up pulley bolt pattern. You can use it if you change the timing cover and crank pulleys to the '68 and up style.
Different engines used different pulleys, but not always and many times the difference is insubstantial. The 390 GT used the same pulleys as the more mundane 390s. Engines that were built without a fan clutch used a large diameter waterpump pulley. These are obviously very different. Most other pulleys are the same, or at least pretty much the same as long as you work with the '68/'68 split on the crank pulley. The pulley that changes most due to application is the power steering pump pulley.

cobra460jet, you could also cut the pullys you have now. Put a cutting disk in a drill press, measure and set the height to where you want to cut and cut the pullys. Just a suggestion to save money and the necessity of purchasing new pullys.
