carburetor question
i just had my grandfathers 68 ford pickup handed down to me, he had bought it new. it has a 300-6. it needs the carb built, yet when i removed it i couldn't find a tag or any numbers on it so that i can get the correct rebuild kit, only the words "fomoco."
any chance there was only one carb that came on this type of engine? i know from buying past kits that they always want the carb number.
also, does anyone know of a retailer that might sell a nos or reproduction of this carb?
i took the gas tank off, too. it looks good on the outside, but when i emptied it and banged it around i could hear rust inside steadily breaking loose. is there anything i can put in it to remove and neutralize the rust? i'd hate to buy a new tank. _________________ NMCB 28 Seabee Battalion

okay, then let me ask one simple question:
i can see down into the tank and i see rust. when i bang the sides of the tank, i hear the rust break loose and fall off inside. the outside of the tank looks great, and it doesn't leak anywhere. is there a treatment that i can buy to remove this rust and save this tank?? _________________ NMCB 28 Seabee Battalion

It is usually far less of a pain in the ass to just replace the tank. But yes, Eastwood sells a tank repair kit.
As for the carb, you shouldn't need the number if you know the application. The number is one method to look up a kit. One one of my cars, they can't reference the number for a kit and have to look it up by the application.

You should be able to take the carb to almost any parts store and have them match it up with a remanufactored one.....cost should be less then 200 bucks and your carb problem will be solved.
