Road Race Fairlane
I started to get interested in Spike TV's Bullrun towards the end of the episodes, mainly because I have a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, and the Alsops, who won the race, were driving the same car (although GREATLY modified). While I like my Trans Am, I'm looking to sell it because I just can't afford it and my truck, both of which I make payments on.
To get to the point, I was watching the show, and one of the top four cars was a 68 or 69 Dodge Charger. I keep thinking about what the might've done to make it better-suited for a road race like the Bullrun, and that in the future, I'd like to do something like that, if possible.
So, considering that I am still building this Fairlane, and am not even close to completion, I was wondering what all of you might think would be good modifications/upgrades for such an event, or if it would be foolish to compete in such an event with an older car, when 'vettes and pony cars and europeans are already so much farther along when it comes to suspension, braking, engine, weight, etc.
To put it simply, what would be the best means of equipping a 66-67 Fairlane for such an event? Engine/drivetrain, suspension, braking, cooling, etc., how should each be done? _________________ 1967 Fairlane 500, 302 V8, Toploader transmission. Maybe I'll eventually get it on the road.

interesting
Me and my girlfriend used to do the same style of event (road rally's) in my old audi, and are currently building my 63 for the same thing.
What ive acquired for the 63:
33gal fuel cell
electric fans with auto and manual control
trans cooler
fuel cooler (I got it for free, don't really know if its actually worth the install..)
good interior insulation / weatherstripping
nice drivers seat (driver comfort is actually important for 1500+ miles of driving)
Im tempted to toy with a water injection setup, tho I doubt unless using the bottle excessively itd really be needed. Preventative measures to prolonged driving are the only things I've focused on so far. Im sure after the first run (next summers cali to canada cruise) I'll have a list of requirements. _________________ 1963 Fairlane Sports Coupe Project
Recent:
351w ready for install, still debating a T5 or C6.
18gal fuel cell in place.
Upcoming:
salvage or replace rear end...
front disk brake conversion

Road Race Fairlane
Howdy. I've been sorta playing along these directions, here's what I've found so far, most of it done:
Global West front upper and lower a-arms, plus strut rods
Stock springs, maybe just up a hair, or cut front coils 1/2 or so or go with the stock HD (still available off the shelf)
Roller spring perches
Roller idler arm
Edelbrock tie rod sleeves
Addco 1-1/8 front bar, 7/8 rear bar (relocate oil filter with truck mount)
QA1 single adjustables all around, or maybe Bilstein Heavy Duty in the rear from a Volvo 122s sedan
Three front braces - the long sideways one, a home made one from the cowl to the shock towers using 65 Fairlane struts, and the vertical v-mount brace in front of the radiator from Evolution Motorsports ($40!)
Crites subframes
Weld in a sheet metal plate behind rear seats a la Boss 302 chassis handbook
Stock rear springs, maybe plus up a little bit in rate, stock ride height
HD rear shackles, stock rubber front mounts
15x7 wheels all around, with 225/60-15 BFG G-Force sport rubber
There ya go!

scott, you say qa1 all around, do you have coilover shocks inside the normal coils? or the red global west kit eliminating the perches? i have been looking for some sort of setup similar, and for the prices i think i will weld my own part. do you have some pics of your current setup? thanks sounds nice.

coil overs for F;lanes
The RRS suspension set up is road race worthy but, mucho $$$!
there is a guy/company
I have his address here somewhere
Making roller spring perches & coil overs that bolt to the early F;lanes upper arms
So, its quite a handling package & you can adjust up to 5"
His whole spring, roller perches, upper arms, coil overs are around 1K
And he is now working on a rack & pinion. _________________ roger powell

coil overs for F;lanes
The company is called MPR guys name is Mike
He was at SEMA can;t find his number
His set up uses a cone shaped piece that goes on the spring perch, holds a QA-1 or other coil over, and bolts to stock shock tower
the weight is transfered as stock.
He customs the perches to be rollers.
You get the modern type ride & handling with adj height control
I do have pics
I found his info at mustangs&more
Talked to Frank who says the whole set up cost around $550.00 & works really, really well
I;ll try & find Mikes contact info,
did talk to him & he sounds like a great guy _________________ roger powell
