No tricks, really. A hooked prybar will easily pop it out. Of course, a seal puller is easiest but not really necessary. On installation, I run a light coating of Permatex 2 on the outside and somewhat pack the seal side with some grease to ensure that the spring doesn't dislodge from the seal. If you're referring to the paper gasket, then that's easily done away with by a bead of RTV.
