Edsel question: what did E-400 mean?

my dad bought two whole Edsels today, both had FE's in them. He said the valve covers had E-400 written on them, and asked me to find for him what that meant. Any help?

guess i should have googled first.

turns out the 400 was the torque, the engine was a 361 FE. ford did something quirky by putting the torque on the valve covers. they also had an E475 that was a 410 FE. both of my dad's are 58 Ranger cars, one is a 2 door hardtop.

Buick also did that by advertising the torque, rather than CID on the air cleaner. Wildcat 435 comes to mind.
