My '66 Fairlane 500 Convt.

Here she is - first pic is how I found her 8 months ago - languishing in a garage where she'd been for the past 13 years. She was laid up because of a broken leaf spring and a noisy axle bearing.

Here she is today, running and driving, but still sitting a little low in the back b/c of the tired rear springs (swapping out this weekend, I hope).

Thanks to all the folks here who have provided helpful advice.

Scott

New springs are in and she looks much better - nice and level now. Need to take some updated pics.

are you going to leave the 67 grill and tailights in it, or put 66's in?

Think I'm going to stick with the '67 parts, so it'll be a close match for my Wimbledon White '67 hardtop.

Thanks,

Scott

it looks really good. i love the 12 slot wheels, i think those are the best looking wheels you can put on the 66/67's. i have them on mine (see below). i'm planning to replace my leaf springs this winter too, i'm dreading getting the front bolts out of them. Sad

Glad you like it. I think I'm going to swap the 12 slots for a set of Magnum 500's at some point.

As for the leaf springs, the front bolt is a pain, but I got it out with a lot of PB Blaster and beating with a hammer and a punch. An air hammer might have done it quicker.

Thanks,

Scott

Looks much better now that the new leaf springs have it sitting level.

Lot has happened since the last pics - she's been taken down to the bare metal (lots of interesting stuff found!) and is getting ready for paint. I have a built 390 with E-brock heads, toploader 4 sp, 9", new red interior waiting to be installed. My buddy Randy in Orrville Ohio is doing the paint job. He does FANTASTIC work for a reasonable price; that's why I trailered it 350 miles from Northern Va to Ohio for the paint job. He's painting it black, and I know it will be laser straight when he's done. Also cloning it into a GT at the same time - have the correct hood, trim, emblems, etc. Removing the 67 grille, taillights, etc, and going back with 66 stuff as well.

See pictures of the bodywork in progress at my website www.bulletpruf.9f.com - click on the 66 Fairlane convt. resto pictures link.

Thanks,

Scott

Making plenty of progress here. Seats are recovered, bodywork is done, front end is rebuilt, toploader is rebuilt, primer is going on next, then a new convertible top, then paint, then engine, trans, and rearend installation. Won't make it for convertible weather this year, but should be ready next spring...

Thanks,

Scott

9" has a new TrueTrac unit and I'm setting up the gears now.

390 rebuild has turned into a 428 build - I had a spare 428 crank, some LeMans rods, and a few 390 blocks, so I found a 390 block that would bore to 4.13, added some forged flat tops from Probe, a fairly mild solid roller from Comp (I had an old set of FE roller rockers laying around), new ARP cap screws for the rods, etc. Heads are unported Edelbrocks, Streetmaster intake, 750 Demon carb, MSD billet distributor, etc. Estimated hp is 470-475. Should be well into the 12s with any sort of traction. Had planned for more of a "cruiser" but had spare parts that needed to be used...
