Jeremy,

Most likely, you will be shortening a drive shaft to fit the longer C6 and longer 9" case. Shortening a drive shaft (with balance) is not that bad, about $100 give or take.

Original Fairlane wagon driveshafts were two piece. An internal piece was bonded with rubber to an outer piece..... Needless to say, these fail!!!!

So get a one piece that is too long, BUT HAS THE RIGHT SIZE U-JOINTS, and have it shortened. It will be stronger, PLUS you can move on with the project now!

Hoping my two piece doesn't let loose next burnout!!!

driveshaft

hey guy, thanks for the info, I found a place just two counties overs from me that does and they do very nice work. My car still has the 8" rear, so I sent him my stock shaft and a C6 yoke. He ethn shortened my shaft put a new end on it and balanced it for $83.00. the only problem is I give him the wrong measurement. I need it to be about 1.5" longer. I have never messed with a bigblock before, and I am not sure if I will again. My plans for the wagon was to pull the motor from my 93 stang and add a TKO 5 spd, and then cruise the crap out of it. But I had the 390 just sitting in the garage for the fairlane. But I knew it would be a while before the Fairlane was done, and I still needed to buy the 5 spd. So I put the 390 in the wagon and here we are. Post some pics of your wagon, I would like to see it. I posted some of mine the other day. Thanks again,. Jeremy

Rearend

jeatonms......

You will want to get a 9" out of a 67 Ranchero or Wagon, in order to bolt right in. 66 will probably work too. They are the same dimension flange to flange as a regular Fairlane, however, the perches are narrower due to the gas tank and spare tire thangs!!! (Axles etc are the same)

My buddy just found one down south, but he thinks the Ranchero had been underwater....so who knows about the housing......

I DO need to get some new pic's of the wagon! Also need to get under it and fix that danged P/S hose so I can drive the beast!
