New to the forums!!!!
I just wanted to say hi and Im new to the boards. I have been a ford fanatic for years mostly dealt in mustangs but I just recently purchased a 66 GT for a project car. The vin# is 6A43H176749 I was hoping you all can break this code down for me so I can understand it. I tried to decode it on this site and couldnt figure it out. Thanks again and hope to frequent this site regularly!!!!!

Also the car has all the GT badgeing and interior badgeing. So hopefully this is a true GT car. But it does not have the Hood, was the GT hood an option or do I not have the original hood?

VIN checker link on Woody's
Welcome to the world of Fairlanes!!

a true 66 gt will have an engine code of 'S' in the 5th digit... sorry
BUT, a 390 H code is gotta be pretty rare in itself...

So pretty much I got a Fairlane with GT options added. The H says its a 390 2v. I wonder why they put GT interior in and grill and all the badging. Or could you order all of this like that. Bryan _________________ 66 Fairlane H code

Swapped in
the GT parts were most likely swapped onto your car from a wreck or a donor car. the gt stuff is also avaiable from the after market. GT badges in a gt are located on the console, front fenders, trunk lid
front grille, and door panels

That is exactly were these are located, and the gt badge on the consule is right about the 4 speed shifter correct. This is weird that someone would take the time to do all of this. So the 390 was an option on any fairlane? This must be why I have Fairlane 500 on my quarters. The car is solid as a rock and I only paid 2700 shipped to my door so I dont feel out to bad. Is there a big price or cost difference between a GT and a 500 when restored??? Thanks again, Bryan _________________ 66 Fairlane H code

sounds fishy..
The 66 gt was only available with the 335hp 390 4v V8. no optional motor. all have plain 'F A I R L A N E" in individual block letters on each 1/4 panel, not Fairlane500. Where did your VIN come from? on the door? check out the door VIN with the one under the rubber seal in the radiator support..

It came from the door, maybe the door was swapped out after a wreak or something. Bryan _________________ 66 Fairlane H code

price
Regardless, $2700 bucks is a very good price for a running complete fairlane w/ a bigblock... how is the body and floors?

They are very solid, no holes or surface rust at all. I am very pleased with the car because it is so solid. Kinda disappointed in not being the GT but I guess thats what I get for not researching. But like you said an H code car has to be somewhat rare. Bryan[/img] _________________ 66 Fairlane H code

I will check it out and keep you posted. I do have so good history on the car. It was actually Bill Elliott's car and was painted for him by Daniel Bell is painter. So that was pretty cool. And I know that the car was bought in Tenn originally and was a Georgia car for the next 30 years. So body and everything is in awesome shape. Bryan _________________ 66 Fairlane H code
