Wheel Well trim for '66 GT?

Fellas -

My '66 GT Convt (clone) is in paint jail. They're working on the fenders now. Current fenders have holes for wheel well trim. Did this come on GT's or was it optional? Need to know whether or not to weld up the holes. Pictures I've seen seem to indicate that it was not standard. If it was optional I'm inclined to leave it off; would look kind of "busy" I think.

Thanks

Scott

I do not believe the 66 GT/GTA had fender trim.
