lights and guages messed up....

Pulled out the inst. panel the other day, painted the needles, lightly cleaned what I could and reinstalled it. All has worked well until last night. Turned on the headlights and both blinker lights came on and stayed on....without blinking...when I did try the turn signal both of them blinked, changed out my new flasher and it made no difference....notice I have completely lost my instument light, no bright or dim no nothing. At one point I also lost my fuel guage and temp guage...both just went to O, nothing. Im thinking headlight switch maybe??? Pulled out the instrument cluster to take a look behind it and suddenly it all seemed to work correctly except the guage lights.....Now Im thinking maybe I lost a ground somewhere to the cluster, can this happen?

Even before getting to the end of your post, I was thinking bad ground. Easy enough to test by just putting a lugged wire on the panel and one on the dash structure to re-establish the ground. There is also a regulator but that doesn't control the panel lights.

Agree with Gerry...The ground on the panel is a pain. With age and oxidation very easy to lose the ground or make it intermittent. I used emery paper on all of the screw holes to clean them out. Also cleaned the screws.

I hate electrical!
