1963 Fairlane Alternator Conversion

I'm trying to do the 12SI Delco Alternator conversion on my 1963
Fairlane with factory style air conditioner.

I found a picture of the upper alternator bracket that I believe
I need here:

Those pics have the air conditioner tensioner on it. I believe they
are the brackets I need. They seem to have come on mustangs
from the mid 60's...

However, the one people keep saying to use looks like this (and I
think it would work if I did not have the factory style A/C):

Any idea where to get that upper alternator bracket (featured in
the first couple pics)? What other pieces do I need to tension the
air conditioner belt? These pieces all need to bolt to a stock 260 V8.
The pictures above seem to be 289's.

Maybe this is a piece I need:

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

brackets

2 ways tpo mount the CS series alts. to a SM.block, you show both methods
1-just a long bolt & a round alum. spacer at the top with the stock ford lower adjuster bracket
2- the triangle shaped piece & that lower adj. bar as shown
I;ve used both pieces but, went to a Moroso mount which just looks cooler!
I have 4 or 5 of those triangle shaped mounts if you want one or i have a number of the lower adjustable bars too
All you have to do is drill out the CS top mount a little bit to run that long bolt through it to mount to the head & use that long bracket ,with the slot in it, for a lower adjustable mount
If you can;t find one lemme know, the lower slotted piece is on almost any sm.block ford, pre-80;s tho i think

Thanks for the reply, Roger.

The problem with the mounting techniques you describe is that
I have to remove the current upper generator bracket to mount
the alternator. When I do that, the AC tensioner has to come
with it because it is part of the upper generator bracket. Setup
like this (see the bracket right next to the red dipstick handle).

So, my question is how to tension the AC belt after mounting the
alternator and removing the upper generator bracket.

oh yes!

I see what u mean, for some reason your questions ran off the end of my screen! Could be a bit costly, unless you can cruise the wrcking yards for a stock piece.
March, i think has an answer but you would have to buy their whole front pulley kit which is damn expensive, but would certainly work & their is another company, I know my buddies is somewhat like yours, with AC, but, its a big block, he used this companies drive set up.i will ask & get back to you

Thanks again for the reply. I don't know how to fix the formatting
on the text... sorry it ran off the page.

I think this may be the correct setup

This seems to be the part I will need:

A guy on ebay wants 160 bucks for that piece. My question is whether it will
bolt up to a 260 v8. Will the holes match up? Does the water pump have to
have a bolt hole in it for that to work (i.e. was that hole present on the 289, but not
early 260 V8's?)?

Roger,

Thanks for you PM. I'm sending an email to Bob to see if he knows the answer. Thanks for the hint on joining the Fairlane Club, I've been meaning to do that for a while...

I appreciate all the help, you sent me a power brake booster a while back that has a big help getting my Fairlane to slow down on demand. Thanks for that too.

Hope you are doing great,
Jeff

Bob seems to think the water pump would need to be changed in order to install the new alternator and keep the stock A/C setup.

I may have found the answer to my question, but the price is painful:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Powermaster/713/82101/10002/-1

It looks like it will bolt right up to the stock bracket, look stock, and give good amp output.

I might actually buy it because by the time I get the alternator (around $80), the waterpump (?$80), the wiring to do the 3 wire install ($30), the idler ($150), etc... it quickly approaches a ton of parts and $, and also is a much more difficult install (having to change the waterpump, idler, etc.).

The downside is that if it ever goes out, I will have to send it in the mail to get it fixed rather than just buying a new 12SI alternator at a local parts shop.

Argh,
J
