67 grille. paint or no paint

What is the story with the '67 grille Question

I have seen them with no paint such as this....................

Or with sections blacked out such as this.................

Is it just a personal preference thing or what. Question

I have just done mine in the black for a couple of reasons. The silver finish was looking pretty tatty and anyway I prefer the painted look.

I would leave the grille silver/chrome.

The GT grilles wire painted dark gray on the horizontal ribs and black between the ribs. The non-GT grilles did not have the ribs painted. I think they were still painted black between the ribs.

A pic of the finished grille. I think it looks better than the unpainted version.

I think it has a more agressive look to it.

Also the small spoiler/air dam fitted under the bumper.

I like it painted, but to each his own. I'm in the process of restoring a grill for my '66, and am trying to make it look as good as new, trying I say.

It was made from a piece of 1/8 steel plate. Just under 3 feet long (to suit the width of the front frame crossmember) and trimmed on the top to match the front crossmember shape. The lower corners were then rounded off and it was welded in place. Just something different. It should pass a bit extra air to the radiator but really just a cosmetic thing. I like it and it is solid enough to take a couple of knocks without self destructing. It cost me $10 to have cut and welded. I copied it from one I saw on a model. Wink

Re: 67 Grille

I'm deciding what to do with mine at the moment. The rest of the car is being painted, (Raven Black) and I really don't know what to do with the grille, headlight doors etc. The bumper is fibreglass, so It's going to have to have some paint on it too. Wondering whether to paint everything black and have a really dark, mean looking car or stripping everything back that was chromed or polished and going the satin silver look. The grille and the headlight doors are OK looking as is, but not up to the task when the rest of the car is going to look schmick. It's not a concourse resto, more of a personal build. Anyway, I can't see the photobucket images, can you reload or repost or something so that we can see them? I'm looking for ideas with how to paint this thing.
