If you can find some, i understand from my "building ford small blocks on a budget" book, the best to use on the 302 is the head from a 66-73 351w 2v. They are a bolt on and flow much better than the 302 ones.

I think the 302 only came with 1 head (except the BOSS).

Compression!

Not all 302 heads were created equal...The difference was in compression ratio.
If you look at the link below for 302 HP specs you will notice 2V and 4V specs depending on application. The 4V 302 heads have 53cc combustion chambers where the 2V heads could range from 63cc to 70cc and above. The smaller the chamber, the higher the compression. If you are looking to run power adders ie. NOS, turbo, or supercharger, you would want a lower comp head. If you are going to run without, the 4V head works great. If you run a 351 head on a 302, you have created a BOSS configuration.

J Code

Those heads are 68 302 4v J code head. more compression, and 351w valves i think. still not as good as even the cheap aftermarket or gt40 heads, IMO...

BKIN -- The Boss uses a 4v 351 Cleveland head, not a Windsor head, very big difference.

Also notice that intake and exhaust port size is the same for 2v and 4v (302), I am sure the chambers are the same size untill 73 also. Im pretty sure they are the same head for both engines, I have a big ford engine book at home and will check it out tonight.

What head do you have? I think the 66-73 is a typo as the 351w didn't come out until 69, but of the 351w heads available, the C9OE-B or C9OE-D is a 60cc head whereas the D0OE-C, D0OE-G and D0OZ-C are all 62cc heads.

The 351w head is the same type head as the 289/302 head whereas the Boss used a 351C head which is a different animal and requires a special intake manifold.

Jason Fletcher's site has some flow info on iron and aluminum heads.

I ran a set of '69 351w heads that had some port work done to them, I'd call it Stage 2. They were on a '65 289 block with a '65 289 crank that had been indexed and the rod jornals turned to a V6 Chevy size (not sure what size that is), Howards Aluminum rods in stock length and a set of TRW 12.7:1 pistons if using 57/58cc 289/302 heads, so we figured we were running about 11.5:1. The cam was a Schneider solid roller and we had a setof Crane 1.6 roller rockers on it with a port matched Offy 360 T-ram with dual stock Holley 660's on top of it, exhaust was taken care of with a set of Hooker Super Comps. The car was a '69 R-code Mach I Mustang that weighed about 3000# with driver and had 9x30 slicks, a 5.67 gear on a spool, a Jerico 4-speed (2.9something 1st gear I believe) and ladderbars and the cheap adjustable Morrison coil overs and the fastest we ran was 11.08 @ 119 on 2 year old slicks around the first of December at Ark City, Kansas spinning the rear wheels. A few months before at FFW in Ennis, the car ran 11.09 @ 118 pulling the fronts almost a foot.
