I have a very small budget left and i wanted to get the front of my car down about an inch. Whats the feeling on cutting the springs?

Well, cutting does work but it's a lot of trial and time getting things exactly where you want them. Don't take more than a half coil on the initial attempt. And cutting should be done without heating the spring and causing it to lose temper.
And keep in mind when you change the spring's height you are also changing the rate which can make the ride a little stiffer. Not remarkably so with minor changes but there is a change. As well, a new ride height will change the static toe setting since the lower control arm and the tierod are in different arcs.

spindles
Does anyone make lowered spindles for these cars? If they do with just an inch you could keep all the suspension travel.

lowering front end
Ford put out a 13" wheel in the 60's I believe they came on Calienties (merc.),they were 5 stud , might be a cheap way of lowering?

watch out for flying springs
Bill:
I tried the cutting way back when i first got my 62
Just be careful, those springs are like deadly weapons on removal
Allot of hidden energy, i had one come out at speed, go across the room & put a major dent in a concrete wall!
Thankfully i had just walked out of the garage when it let go
I cut about 2 coils off, the ride height was good but, the ride was terrible.
I ended up buying lowered springs from Eaton Detroit which gave me a 2.5" drop & a great ride.
You would be way better off saving your pennies & calling Eaton Detroit for a lowering spring, they have all our Fairlane specs in their computers too _________________ roger powell

Ok Roger did it. I am removing them to rebuild the front end. I am not going to cut them. If I get the money I will just find new ones with a one inch drop

Eaton springs
When i went to coil overs/rack & pinion i sold my complete front end to a local guy, now, i don;t know if he used on one of his cars or not
Springs would be just right for you
I'll drop him a note if you like, see if he wants to part with them _________________ roger powell
