Hood ground???

I'm going to install my 427 Ram Air Hood on my Fairlane and was wondering if anyone knows what the flat copper strap that is mounted on the passengerside rear hood bumper is for? It looks like a ground as it digs into the hood when closed. Any ideas. I'll be removing it for my hood installation, I'm just curious what it does.

Thanks!

Doug,
It's just for grounding the hood. Why they do it in a 66 I have no idea. In a 67 the power domes have the turn signal indicators in the back of them so I would assume that they need it. The ground strap will have no effect with a fiberglass hood.

Odd?

I thought it was odd to ground the hood with no electrical connections.

Could it be to discharge static eletricity built up from driving? Like the wind passing over the sufface.
