auto floor shifter with bench seat

Hey Guys, I want to put a floor shifter in my 66 with a bench seat.....I did buy a B & M Unimatic which looks like a 4 speed shifter but I think it's not a very safe shifter since it doesn't have a reverse lock out. I haven't found any other after market shifter that won't take up so much space or just not fit right sitting on the floor. Would one of those stock auto shifters work....it looks like one of those in the older Mustangs, I had one in my 70 and liked it but they can still jump out of gear. I'm sort of at a loss but I don't want the column shifter anymore.
Can I even use a stock floor shifter with a bench seat or am I going to have to use some cable shifter?

I use a B&M Starshifter in my 67 wagon, It works well although I had to run the reverse lights thru a toggle switch. I had to construct a wooden platform/base to mount it on.
