Idler Arm Bushings

Guys,

I'm in the middle of replacing my idler arm and bushings on my 62.
What is the trick to getting the old bushings out?
And of course getting the new ones back in.
I do have an impact hammer if that helps but not sure how to use it to get these bushings out.

Thanks

A press is the best way.

You could also drill little holes in the rubber between the inner and outer bushings and remove the center part. Use a hack saw to split the outer bushing to drive it out easier.

You could use your bench vice as a press to reinstall the new one.

Pay attention to the depth thet the original bushings were installed at.

Idler arm bushings ...

They made a tool way back then that looked like a HUGE beefy c-clamp. It had all these rings or adapters for the different size bushings.

I just happened to mention this to a co-worker, then lo-and-behold, he states that he used to restore mustangs and has all those tools. He promptly brought them for me to borrow. Very Happy

If you were someplace near Mojave, CA, you could stop on by press them in.

I'm getting ready to do the job myself including the lower arm bushings.

I wish I was there, after heavy thought I chickened out and decided to take it the suspension shop down the street.

$20.00 tohave them pressed out

and new bushings pressed in, a great investment, saved a lot of work.
