Hydraulic Clutch conversion . . .
OK, so here is the deal with my '62 Fairlane;
I installed a Howe Racing 829 Hydraulic slave cylinder on my transmission. The tranny is a T170FS SROD out of an '83 Mustang behind a 302 HO.
Then I installed a Wilwood 260-1304 Master Cylinder.
there are no misalignments or binding. The clutch actually works great. The only problem is that it is like pushing a 20lb bag of cement with my foot.
Has anyone else out there experimented with this type of hydraulic setup? Just wonding if I need to go to a bigger slave cylinder or is there some other reason that this is such a stiff setup.
I drove the Mustang that this drive train came out of and I also drove my '62 Fairlane with a "micky-rigged" cable setup for many years and it was never this hard to push.
Any ideas????
Stiff in Mojave.

where is the master connected to the pedal? If it is too low, that may cause it to require a lot of effort.
I did a hydraulic conversion on my 69 using the same master as you and it works great!
I am running a 7/8" slave also. _________________ 69 Torino GT Formal Roof

Dang! That's got to be it! I did not want it to be at an angle on the firewall so I have it connected to the clutch pedal about in the middle. That's a good 4 inches below where the original rod would have gone.
I guess I could make up one of those adjustable brackets like I have seen online so the Master Cylinder could bet at an angle to mount at a higher location?
Man! All that work over the weekend too!

Yes, your master is same as mine, but mine off a 01 Mustang GT , as long as you find a V-8 4 wheel disc stang, i think they are the same. _________________ roger powell

Torino420,
Thanks for all your help. I machined up a tapered block that is 1.25 thick at the top and .25 thick at the bottom. This aluminum block sits between the master and the firewall. It sets the master at just the right angle to get the rod perfectly lined up to the original clutch rod hole way up on the clutch arm. Now you can actuate the clutch with your hand!
I'm on my way now!
