Late model 302 with early model C4
Newbie question....I have a C4 pan fill, 164 tooth out of a 66 Galaxie and have the opportunity to purchase a rebuilt 302 out of an 85 T-bird for an excellent price...will there be any problems using the two together...anything else I should be thinking about? First Ford engine swap for me.
Thanks for the help ahead of time.

balance
Quiet ,eh?
The early flywheel wil be 28 oz imbalance, the late block will have a 80;s up 50 oz. damper.
You need a 164 tooth late balance flywheel, i think its that simple,no? _________________ roger powell

swap
Yes, this is waht you will need to do. My dads 66 fastback as a late model 302 and a early C4, I think he called someone like Mustangs Unlimited and they had the right flywheel for what he was doing... Good Luck, Jeremy _________________ 1966 fairlane 500 289 auto ( daily driver )

If the engine you got has the flywheel/flexplate on it, it should bolt right up to the tranny that you have. Just make sure that the torque convertor snout mates inside the hole of the flexplate and that it bottoms in the end of the crank just before the nuts on the torque convetor are tight. _________________ Steve 64 S/C big brakes 8.8 rear 289 lentech AOD, strut front suspension

measure
Measure your bell to make sure you get the correct size flywheel, probably 157 small or 164 large with early balance.
but, you don;t want to find out you have the wrong size when its all put back together, don;t ask how i know!! _________________ roger powell
