First cruise of the year, successful!

I just got in from my first night out with the car and it was a success! The car didn't over heat, battery stayed charged and the it's making more power than last year.

I robbed the electric fan this winter for a daily driver project then ended up selling it with the car so I installed the original 4 blade fixed fan for the 429 and the only time the temp got over 160* was after it sat at the gas station. I think the removal of the electric fan also helped my charging issues as well. I cruised all night with no problems.

I thought that the Mallory 6AL2 box would cause some issues with the charging but it didn't seem to bother it. The only thing it bothered was the ability for the street treads to hook up when I hit 2nd gear!

I think 2009 is gonna be a good year for the Fairlane.

ITs finally warming up here in SE Washington. Had my heater core go out last fall and got that swapped this morning.

Had some issues with overheating at longer stops, so I swapped the thermostat out, added a shroud and that seemed to fix the problem. I can idle for any length of time now with out going a degree over 170.

An electric fan will take a lot of juice. It's probably the highest draw on your elecrical system you have.
