66 Fairlane 460 swap ... need pics, anyone ??
I know Crites makes a kit for this swap, but
I'm curious to know the type (rear of front sump) of oil pan
for my '66 with factory manual steering, and I would like
to see how much clearance between headers & shock towers.
Also curious as to motor mount type or do they use a plate?
Would like to see pics if possible of underside of engine in this swap.
Any help much appreciated !! _________________

I think I found almost everything on
460 Ford .com. Looks like all the cars with
this swap are using front sumps, but I want to
use a rear if possible.....
thanks! _________________

I don't see how you can use a rear sump pan without some serious surgery on the car. You'd be looking at a new front subframe to change the location on the existing front crossmember and steering gear. It would be easier to go with a dry sump system.

Early Fairlanes only use front sump. There are a set of 460 swap mounts on ebay right now. If you go to Fordmuscle.com there are some pics that you are looking for.

Thanks gear-jammer, but I think I will
re-think this issue. I have a rear-sump pan on the
engine, and it will clear the steering, but I would have an
issue with the firewall when bolting up the trans, and I don't think
I would do it that way anyhow, because then the (Crites) headers would
not fit. Though I want to drag race this car, the 460 would be farther
forward than I would prefer for proper weight bias using a front sump pan.
I really don't want to butcher the firewall per some class rules, and I am not
going as far as to remove the shock towers and change the complete front end, since I've already rebuilt the stock suspension and added discs.
I think I am going to consider an FE engine and see what I can come up with.
Thanks !! _________________

You will need to notch the shock towers if you want to have access to your spark plugs. Stay away from the Blue Thunder B heads (chevy exhaust) b/c they are wider than other 385 series heads.
