The 1965 289 6 bolt engines have a wider bell housing and the 64 z bar will not clear. The short arm on the 65 z bar is curved to clear the bell housing.

Have the radiator shop check the engine temperature with one of their electronic temp sensors and compare to your gauge.

Fairlanes used the T-86 3 speed manual for their overdrive models. With the overdrive option, the regular tail shaft was deleted and the overdrive was added. This is actually a 4th gear.
