Have a set of door handles for my 66 that have the holes for the mounting studs full of rust. Need to know the thread size of the stud so I can run a tap in the hole and clean it up.

2). rear backing plates, brakes and hardware - used -70399 & 70398

Are you looking to kept it as stock looking as you can? Then go with getting the 289 rebuilt. I had mine done last winter at a local shop, they did a great job. Put in a "Lazer" cam, Windsor Jr Heads, ...

I agree. To have someone tell you what they had to do or what they did that wasn't right is very helpful, and "Pictures" are very, very helpful.
